Collectors, SPs should be more responsible: Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu addresses Collectors' conference

Amaravati: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan questioned the district collectors over why they had remained silent even when wrongdoings and crimes were taking place in their areas during the previous government's administration.

Addressing the collectors of 26 districts and heads of 40 departments at Amaravati, he said that it was not fair on the part of the collectors to remain silent spectators when there were several fiscal irregularities and aberrations, when they were so educated and qualified.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was also present at the meeting.

"As outsiders, we used to wonder how you could remain indifferent even when there were illegalities happenings in your jurisdiction," he recalled.

The previous government had shaken the basic rules of democracy but we should protect it, he told the collectors.

The people in the state have high expectations from the coalition government and it was evident in their mandate. The government can make policies but the officials should execute them, he said.

He sought cooperation from the collectors and said that they, and the SPs, should act as responsible officers. Lackadaisical attitude will not be tolerated, he said.

He also warned of strict action against those not controlling illegal activities.

He praised the Chief Minister for convincing several MNCs and reputed firms to set shop in the state. "This will help in generating the most required employment to the youth," he said.
