Doli journeys persist in remote agency villages

Visakhapatnam: In Gudenkottaveedhi mandal's remote villages, poor road infrastructure forces residents to resort to arduous doli journeys for medical emergencies.

On Wednesday, Gemmeli Devi of Goonalanka village in Devarapalli panchayat experienced severe labour pain. Without proper transportation, her family carried her 8 kilometres via a doli to RV Nagar, where vehicle access was possible. She was then transported to Chintapalli Regional Hospital for medical attention.

This incident highlights the persistent lack of infrastructure in these regions, impeding timely healthcare access. Community leaders continue to urge the government to prioritise road development, recognising that doli journeys, while resourceful, are not a sustainable solution for critical emergencies.
