Deepam Subsidy To Be Continued To Those Opted For PNG: Naidu

CM sets target to achieve 10 lakh PNG connections in six months

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials and oil companies to intensify efforts to promote the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG), particularly among beneficiaries of the Deepam scheme.

This, he said, would mitigate potential disruptions in LPG supply arising from the present global uncertainties.
Stressing the need for energy security, he called for an accelerated shift towards PNG as a safer and more efficient alternative for households.
During a high-level review held at the secretariat on Friday, the CM called for spread of awareness among the beneficiaries of the Deepam scheme about the advantages of a shift to PNG connections. He made it clear that beneficiaries opting for PNG would continue to receive the subsidy under the scheme.
Setting an ambitious target, the CM asked officials and oil marketing companies to ensure a provision of 10 lakh PNG connections within the next six months. Timelines must be adhered strictly and delays in the execution must be avoided.
Officials informed Naidu that the domestic gas supply situation is likely to stabilise in the near future. He expressed concern over delays in the Srikakulam–Kakinada natural gas pipeline project.
Officials said certain approvals were pending at the central level. The CM spoke with Union petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri, urging him to expedite the project.
Naidu said the tendering process had been completed, but further delays could hamper expansion plans.
Puri responded positively, assuring the CM that necessary steps would be taken to accelerate the pipeline project.
