Kurnool: Construction of the Government Medical College at Adoni in Kurnool district, which started in December 2022, remains bogged down due to delays. Though the timeline for its completion is June 2025, only about 25 per cent of work has been completed.
Former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation for the Adoni Medical College in May 2021. Estimated to cost ₹475 crore, the college will have 430 beds and serve the residents of Yemmiganur, Pathikonda, Alur, Kowthalam, Mantralayam, Kosigi and Adoni mandals, as well as neighbouring areas of Karnataka and Telangana.
The teaching hospital has been planned to provide essential medical services, including treatment to road accident victims and maternity care, thereby reducing the need for referrals to the Government General Hospital at Kurnool.
The project includes construction of a hostel, dormitory for nursing students, quarters for staff, a central kitchen, dining facilities, MGPS, liquid oxygen and biomedical waste plants, a central drug store, a laundry, and a mortuary.

Student union leaders gathered in Adoni on Wednesday demanding that construction of the medical college be expedited. In response, a senior official said the state government is planning to build the project under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode for rapid completion.
