Denied ministry, senior north Andhra MLAs unhappy
Visakhapatnam: In a surprising move, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken only four ministers from the north Andhra region into his ministry – Srikakulam’s Kinjarapu Atchennaidu, Vizianagaram’s Kondapalli Srinivas, Manyam’s Gummadi Sandhya Rani, who belongs to the ST community, and Anita, the youngest candidate, who belongs to the SC community.
Chandrababu's decision has surprised many senior leaders in the region, as they have been kept out. Despite 13 alliance candidates winning from the combined Visakhapatnam district, only Anita has been lucky enough to be in the AP cabinet.
Surprisingly, Ayyanna Patrudu, who is more senior in the TDP than Chandrababu, did not find a place in the AP cabinet. There are reports that he did not get a ministerial post because his relationship with Nara Lokesh is not good.
Another senior leader, former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao of Visakhapatnam, is disappointed over not being made a minister. Ganta does not have a good equation with Lokesh and Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat. While campaigning in Bhimili, Sribharat spoke against Ganta saying, “Even if your MLA is not available to you, I will always be with you.”
Velapudi Ramakrishna has won as MLA for the fourth time. Ganababu has scored a hat-trick. But both have not been included in the AP cabinet. Palla Srinivas, from the Yadava community, expected a ministerial position as he had won from Gajuwaka. But he has been denied an opportunity.
Konatala Ramakrishna had high hopes. He is known as Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan's closest friend. He too is unhappy.
In Chipurupalle of Vizianagaram district, Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao defeated Botsa Satyanarayana. He had been hopeful of becoming a minister, as it has been customary to appoint the person elected from Chipurupalle as a minister, regardless of the party in power. This time, the tradition has not been upheld.
Kala Venkata Rao is now waiting to see whether he will be appointed as speaker or deputy speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly.
