Dense fog causes diversion, delay of flights at Vijayawada airport
A flight from Chennai and another from Delhi have been diverted to Rajamahendravaram and Hyderabad airports
Vijayawada: Dense fog has caused several flights to be diverted and delayed arrival and departure at Vijayawada International airport in the early hours of Thursday.
A flight from Chennai and another from Delhi have been diverted to Rajamahendravaram and Hyderabad airports respectively as they were unable to land in Vijayawada airport due to poor visibility. A flight scheduled to arrive at Vijayawada from Hyderabad has been held back at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for some time until the sky turned clear.
Airport authorities say that an aircraft from Chennai which was scheduled to arrive at Vijayawada airport at 7.30 am was diverted and landed at the Vijayawada airport at about 9.45 am. So was the case with another aircraft from Delhi which was to land at Vijayawada airport at 8.10 am was diverted and landed at 11.30 am.
The diversion of flights and their late arrival and departure had a cascading effect on other scheduled flights at the airport.
Vijayawada airport director M. Lakshmi Kanth Reddy said, “Dense fog caused diversion, late arrival and departure of several flights at the Vijayawada airport due to poor visibility on Thursday morning.”
