Denying PAC chairmanship to YSRC unprecedented: Peddireddy

YSRC MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, who filed his nomination for chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), disapproved the state government’s action of not giving the chairmanship of PAC to the opposition party, as is the convention.

“Even in parliament, opposition parties that did not have the principal opposition status have been given the PAC chairman’s post. The ruling governments across all democratic nations have given the PAC chairman post to the opposition party. But this has not happened in Andhra Pradesh,” Peddireddy pointed out.

He regretted that the TD-led NDA government has dishonoured the decorum by not adhering to established norms. He underlined that the YSRC decided to boycott the PAC chairman elections after the government decided to hold voting for the post. The opposition leader pointed out that when YSRC formed the government in 2019 with a huge mandate, winning 151 MLAs, their government made Payyavula Keshav of TD as the PAC chairman.
He underscored the importance of having an opposition leader as the PAC chairman to ensure accountability and transparency.
Leader of opposition in council Botsa Satyanarayana has also criticised the ruling TD-led NDA government for acting against the constitutional spirit regarding the PAC chairman’s post.
