Devotees protest over darshan at Ishtakameshwari temple

Kurnool: Devotees planning a trip to Ishtakameshwari Temple located within the Nallamala forest staged a protest at Shikhareshwaram near Srisailam on Tuesday morning.

Protests started after police stopped five jeeps from carrying devotees to the temple, as they found the vehicles unfit. The vehicles lacked mandatory documentation, including registration certificates, driving licenses, insurance and fitness documents.

Moreover, jeeps had been going overloaded, posing a significant risk to the safety of passengers.

Following this, devotees protested saying they are being denied access to the temple, even though they had purchased tickets for the darshan two days ago. The protest escalated as devotees staged a sit-in on the main road at Shikhareshwaram, leading to a complete halt in traffic.

RTC buses operating between Srisailam and Dornala got stranded, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.

Srisailam circle inspector G. Prasad Rao intervened in the matter and arranged alternate transportation for devotees, ensuring that they could proceed to the temple without further delay. Following this, devotees called off their protest and continued their pilgrimage.
