DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao Reviews Police Initiatives in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao conducted review meetings with police officials in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts as part of his North Andhra tour, on Tuesday.

The DGP announced the deployment of Cyber crime experts at each police station to curb cyber crime activities. He expressed his confidence stating that this initiative aims to clear pending cases and conduct awareness programmes in villages to prevent cyber fraud.

In Srikakulam, DSP K.V. Maheshwar Reddy reported a 17% reduction in crime rates over the past year. He said the district has strengthened its surveillance infrastructure with 460 operational CCTV cameras and the recent installation of 520 additional cameras. He also mentioned that the drone surveillance has also been intensified to enhance security measures.

Vizianagaram district SP Vakul Zindal highlighted the success of the “Sankalp” programme in curbing ganja smuggling. He also discussed about the achievement of the swift prosecution of a child molestation case, where the accused received a 25-year jail within six months of the crime.

The DGP praised Srikakulam police for their performance over the past seven months, particularly in resolving chain-snatching cases and apprehending the Bihari safari gang. He announced several new initiatives, including the formation of an Eagle Task Force team under an IG-level officer to combat illegal cannabis trafficking and storage.

With regards to the crime against women, the DGP mentioned the establishment of special session courts to handle crimes against women. The DGP emphasised the importance of crime prevention over detection, commending the Vizianagaram SP “Sankalpam” programme and its mobile awareness campaign “Sankalpa Ratham” for drug control.

The DGP also stressed the importance of leveraging technology to curb cyber crime and the use of drones to control ganja smuggling and directed officials to enhance their focus on preventive measures across both districts.
