VIJAYAWADA: DGP o has said the police department would prepare a 100-day action plan and implement it with all seriousness to make AP a drug-free state.
This is in tune with the policy of the three-party alliance government.
The police department has effected a complete surveillance to curb the ganja cultivation and smuggling by sensitising the people involved in such acts and providing alternative livelihood opportunities for them in the state, he said.
The DGP was speaking at an awareness campaign on drug abuse organised by the NTR district police to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Wednesday.
Tirumala Rao said the police department aimed to curb ganja cultivation primarily in the East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and ASRR districts. Ganja is cultivated in the agency, tribal and hilly regions of these districts bordering Odisha.
“We would encourage and promote cultivation of alternative crops and provide rehabilitation to those cultivating ganja crops. The department would coordinate with the bordering states to set up integrated check posts at strategic locations and deploy trained police personnel for round-the-clock surveillance and prevent illegal ganja smuggling into the state,” Tirumala Rao said.
NARCO co-option centres will be opened in all districts with the help of district collectors, SPs, DMHOs and other departments. More research centres would be set up and advanced technology adopted to enhance the functioning of the forensic science laboratories (FSLs) and regional forensic science laboratories (RFSLs).
The police department would open more police training centres (PTCs) to enhance the technical capabilities of its personnel and aid them during case investigations, the DGP said.
