DGP vows to rectify past lapses, uphold law and order in state
Anantapur:Director general of police (DGP) D. Thirumala Rao noted that there had been several lapses over the past five years, and the police department is now actively working to rectify them to uphold law and order in the state.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the DGP stressed that the department prioritises ensuring human rights and the protection of children and women throughout the state.
Addressing allegations against certain senior police officers from the previous government, Thirumala Rao clarified that the state government has ordered an inquiry into IG Sanjay regarding these accusations. The investigation report will be sent to the Home Department after review by the General Administration Department (GAD). He noted that the police teams at that time did not respond adequately and neglected their duties, even during the attack on a political party office. The incident had been dismissed as an exercise of freedom of speech, and not a single arrest was made. “Action can be taken even 30 years after an incident. An IPS officer was penalised 20 years after an incident due to negligence,” he pointed out.
Responding to remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the DGP stated that he would not comment on the Deputy CM’s statements specifically. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to 'Dusta Shikshana - Shista Rakshana' (punishing the wicked and protecting the righteous) and emphasised their allegiance to the Constitution. “We never yield to political pressures,” he affirmed, adding that 10 officers have been assigned posts while investigations continue on others, with action pending as necessary.
