Discover Anantapur sets Harvard World Record in saving birds
1.40 lakh man-made nests help birds multiply

ANANTAPUR: Discover Anantapur has set the Harvard World Record in protection of birds by setting up 1.40 lakh man-made nests in Anantapur city.
More than 2.50 lakh sparrows and other bird species had been born in one year in the man-made nests set up in trees in all residential colonies.
Social activist and Discover Anantapur founder A.G. Anil Kumar funded the man-made nests’ concept after noticing that many bird species had disappeared due to lack of trees and pollution in the city.
"We specially ordered nests similar to natural bird nests from Tamil Nadu one year ago. We distributed these nests to bird and nature lovers. Our green army teams set up these nests in the trees of Anantapur city,” Anil Kumar told Deccan Chronicle.
He disclosed that hundreds of college and school students became part of this exclusive project.
Anil Kumar said after witnessing good results, Discover Anantapur applied for the Harvard World Record last year. Representatives of the organisation came to the city and cross-checked facts.
Anantapur collector Dr. Vinod Kumar honoured Anil Kumar at the collectorate here on Thursday.
