Visakhapatnam: The CITU has strongly opposed RINL management's plans to reduce the number of contract workers by 30 per cent, who make up half of the production workforce at the Visakha Steel Plant. A protest by contract workers was held on the plant premises to address this issue. CITU president G. Sreenu accused the central BJP government of attempting to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, alleging that the government is deliberately trying to disrupt production and push the plant into financial losses by withholding essential raw materials.
CITU general secretary Nammi Ramana expressed concern that contract workers have not received their full salaries for the past five months, despite their continued efforts to maintain the plant's operations. He warned that if RINL management proceeds with these actions, they will face serious consequences.
