District as unit for SC reservation categorization in AP, says CM
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has stressed the need to provide equal opportunities to all sub-castes among the Dalits through proper implementation of the SC reservation categorization.
At a meeting held at the secretariat on Thursday the Chief Minister discussed SC reservation categorisation with Dalit MLAs of the three-party alliance. This was in the context of an election guarantee the Telugu Desam had held out regarding the categorisation along with the Supreme Court verdict on its classification.
Naidu said the district will be treated as a unit, based on population ratio, for implementation of the SC reservation categorisation.
“The categorisation was implemented during the period of the undivided state but it was later stopped due to legal issues. In view of the recent Supreme Court verdict, various states are ready to implement the categorisation. We are thinking of implementing this by doing justice to all,” he said.
The CM said the Telugu Desam has been supporting Dalits all alongAfter 2014, funds were spent on Dalits as per proportional ratio through GO-25. Now that the SC verdict has clarified the categorisation, necessary action has been taken to implement it by setting up a commission for this purpose. He said comprehensive development of the Dalit community can be achieved by providing them education, employment, skill development and business opportunities.
“We are thinking about steps to help the Dalit community in the next five years. The people voted for our win in 27 constituencies out of the 29 SC seats in the recent elections. I will make all these MLAs win again in 2029,” the CM stated.
