Door-to-door survey on as seasonal fevers spread

The health department said, “Many people develop fever for two to three days followed by weakness and body pain lasting about 10 days. The previously Covid-affected persons are taking more time to recover from the fever and body pain as their immunity levels have come down”

Vijayawada: Seasonal fevers are reported from several AP districts following the rains and changing climatic conditions. The scenario is not alarming, though.

The health department said, “Many people develop fever for two to three days followed by weakness and body pain lasting about 10 days. The previously Covid-affected persons are taking more time to recover from the fever and body pain as their immunity levels have come down.”

Health authorities say that on an average 200 to 300 cases of fever are being reported per week, which is not abnormal compared with the figures last year.

The health authorities are conducting a door-to-door fever survey in areas where fever cases are high.

Government hospitals are now getting more such patients. “We are keeping stocks of medicines, testing kits, IV fluids etc to treat the patients. As the patients get dehydrated, we rehydrate them to ensure that they recover well,” doctors said.

Village panchayats are taking up sanitation drives on a priority basis by spraying disinfectants while rural water supply authorities are supplying safe drinking water to the people, officials said.

They have appealed to the people to keep their places in a hygienic manner, consume only safe water and visit the nearest government health centre to avail medical treatment without delay.

Health director Dr Padmavathi said, “With change of climate, we are getting fever cases but these are not in an alarming stage. We are advising people to visit the nearest health centre for treatment.”
