Durga Temple Priests Offer Prayers to Krishna
Vijayawada:With Krishna River at Prakasam Barrage in spate after record inflows, the state government officials and Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (SDMSD) priests have offered special poojas to the river, praying for the receding of floodwater levels and return of normalcy to Vijayawada, which is on the river banks.
Principal secretary (endowments) S. Satyanarayana, along with SDMSD EO K.S. Rama Rao and temple head priest Vishnubhatla Shivaprasad Sharma, performed a special pooja to the river on Monday morning. On this occasion, the temple priests performed special prayers to the river at the Durga Ghat and offered a sari, turmeric, saffron, bangles and flowers to the river.
On this occasion, endowments minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, SDMSD EO K.S. Rama Rao and temple executive engineers inspected the ghat road at the Durga temple. Recently, boulders rolled down from the hill and fell on the ghat, damaging the information center at the temple entrance. The minister, along with Vijayawada West MLA Y. Sujana Chowdary, inspected the information center and discussed the permanent measures to be taken to prevent boulders from falling on the ghat road.
Meanwhile, the Durga temple authorities prepared a total of 50,000 food packets and distributed them to the flood-hit people in Singh Nagar, Payakapuram, Nunna, Vambay Colony and other areas in Vijayawada city on Monday.
