ECI orders electoral rolls for AP Council polls

Vijayawada:Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered preparation of de-novo electoral rolls for East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur graduates’ constituencies of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, with November 1, 2024 as the qualifying date.

Accordingly, tahsildars are contacting voters who have applied online to get their documents attested by gazetted officers for enrolment as voters.

ECI has underlined that applications received online, along with a copy of the original or duly authenticated copy, should be verified by the designated verification officer / BLO with original / authenticated copy by visiting the house of the applicant. Only after satisfying her/himself should the officer record verified with original / authenticated copy and found correct / not correct – Rejected. The officer should affix her / his signature and the same should be communicated to the district election officer concerned.

With regard to entering surname, the Election Commission clarified about enrolment of women electors. With regard to name of the applicant, the name provided in Form-18 by the applicant shall be entered in the electoral roll after disposal of the form. In case of mismatch in the surname of a married woman applicant, mere mismatch of surname in the document for educational qualification and ordinary residence shall not be the ground for rejection.

The ECI said an applicant will get sufficient opportunity to get him/herself enrolled in the electoral roll by submitting Form-18 from 23-11-2024 to 9-12-2024 as per the approved schedule of the commission. If s/he is not able to apply for registration till 6-11-2024, the last date for receipt of applications for preparing the draft roll, applications for enrolment can be received till 10 days before the last date of filing nominations.

According to a press release from the AP chief electoral officer Vivek Yadav, all such applications will be disposed of till the last date of nominations.
