Elephant Herd Halts Traffic on Bhakarapeta Ghat Road

Forest officials suspended vehicular movement and monitored the herd until it gradually returned to the forest area.

Nellore:Tension prevailed near Chandragiri in Tirupati district after a herd of elephants strayed onto the Bhakarapeta ghat road on Monday, disrupting traffic for more than an hour.

The elephants reportedly wandered onto the roadway in search of food, leaving motorists stranded and triggering panic among commuters on the busy ghat stretch. Forest officials suspended vehicular movement and monitored the herd until it gradually returned to the forest area.

The incident comes amid increasing elephant movement in the Chandragiri region in recent days. Farmers from nearby villages alleged that elephant herds have been repeatedly entering agricultural fields and damaging crops, causing heavy losses.

Villagers urged the Forest Department to take immediate steps to prevent elephants from entering human habitations and safeguard crops and lives.
