Visakhapatnam: Parvatipuram Manyam authorities have introduced training in embroidery to enhance the well-being of pregnant women residing in hostels throughout the district.
On the orders of district collector A. Shyam Prasad, the district unit of AP Skill Development Corporation has started implementing the embroidery training programme at the Gummalakshmipuram, Saluru and Seethampeta pregnant women's hostels.
The initiative of the district administration is aimed at providing positive and nurturing environment in the hostels, where pregnant women living in remote areas of the predominantly tribal district are relocated well in advance. This is to mitigate any last-minute complications that may arise due to poor road access, inadequate medical services and other factors.
The hostels offer comprehensive care, including nutritious meals and essential medical services, thereby ensuring the health and safety of both mothers and the babies they are carrying.
Collector Shyam Prasad proposed that embroidery training be offered to the pregnant women as a constructive and engaging activity, which can keep them mental engaged during pregnancy. The training is part of the "Sankalp" scheme, which aims to equip women with valuable skills that can become a source of income.
The first cohort of approximately 30 participants has enthusiastically embraced the training, acquiring various embroidery techniques, as well as skills in designing and knitting. This regular activity is proving enjoyable and beneficial for the women.
Divya Bharati from Iridi village in Gummalakshmipuram mandal expressed her appreciation. "The programme is extremely useful for us. After delivery, we will be able to practice our skills at home and generate income," Divya pointed out.
Puvvala Sumitra from Lellikiva in Gummalakshmipuram mandal conveyed similar sentiments. "The training is instilling confidence in us about supporting our families financially. We extend our gratitude to the district administration for implementing such a programme."
“We have essentially introduced the skill training programme to check any form of mental pressure on the pregnant women, which could adversely affect them and their foetus."
