Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court against alleged excavation activities at Erra Matti Dibbalu, a renowned geological formation near Visakhapatnam.
Erra Matti Dibbalu are a unique geological feature, recognised as a National Geo-Heritage Monument by the Geological Survey of India.
These ancient red sand dunes are situated on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam and are considered a significant geological and archaeological site.
The area falls under Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) and is protected under environmental laws.
In his PIL, Mr. Yadav argued that:
Ongoing mining activities at Erra Matti Dibbalu are causing irreversible damage to the geological formation.
These activities violate environmental regulations and pose a serious threat to the ecological balance of the region.
He urged the court to:
Intervene and halt all mining operations in the area.
Direct the authorities to conduct an environmental impact assessment and take necessary steps to protect Erra Matti Dibbalu.
This development comes amid growing concerns over the preservation of this unique geological heritage site.
