Fake IAS Couple Arrested in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Police have arrested a couple posing as Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, cheating several victims across multiple districts by promising jobs and government housing.

Bhagya Rekha, alias Amrutha, and her husband, Mannendora Chandrasekhar, residents of Vangaveti, were apprehended after an investigation revealed an intricate fraud network. The duo impersonated high-ranking officials, including a GVMC Commissioner and a Joint Collector, to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

The fraudsters used fake identification cards and forged documents to promise government jobs and TIDCO houses. One victim was deceived into depositing Rs 80,000 in March 2024 for a house allocation. Similar scams were uncovered across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.

Special teams tracked and arrested the couple in Prakasam district as they attempted to flee. They were remanded to 15 days in Visakhapatnam Central Jail. Investigations revealed multiple cases of financial fraud, including one instance where they swindled Rs 1,00,000 and another involving fraudulent procurement of clothing worth Rs 1,00,000.

The MVP Police have filed cases against the couple and are continuing their investigation.
