Family members of a deceased woman beat KGH duty doctor and staff nurse

Visakhapatnam: A tragic incident unfolded at King George Hospital (KGH) on Sunday night. The family members of a 63-year-old woman who succumbed to acute bilateral pneumonia became distraught and overwhelmed with grief.

The woman's son and grandchildren, understandably upset, acted out by verbally abusing and threatening hospital staff, including duty doctor C. Subramanyam and staff nurse K. Devi Nandini. This caused significant disruption within the hospital.

According to Nandini, "The family members' behaviour was very aggressive, and they used abusive language towards us. Due to the threats, the hospital superintendent was forced to file an FIR against them." Following the incident, KGH superintendent Dr P. Sivananda contacted the One Town police, who registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the family members. However, acknowledging the situation arose from their grief, the police exercised leniency and sent them home with a "bind over" order.

The One Town police recognised that such emotionally charged incidents are not uncommon at KGH, highlighting the need for improved support systems for both patients' families and hospital staff in such difficult situations.
