Farmers Urged To Shift To Drought-Resilient Farming Amid El Niño Fears
The collector made the appeal while releasing a handbook prepared by the agriculture department on suitable crops and farming practices to tackle adverse weather conditions.

Nellore: Markapuram district collector M. Vijaya Sunitha urged farmers to adopt natural farming practices and cultivate drought-resilient crops to mitigate the impact of the anticipated El Niño phenomenon this year.
The collector made the appeal while releasing a handbook prepared by the agriculture department on suitable crops and farming practices to tackle adverse weather conditions. The handbook was unveiled at a programme held at the collectorate on Wednesday.
Addressing farmers and officials, the collector said natural farming strengthens crops and improves their ability to withstand dry spells and moisture stress. She noted that natural farming personnel have been deployed in villages to guide farmers in preparing organic formulations such as Jeevamrutham and Ghanajeevamrutham.
She advised farmers to avoid long-duration crops and instead grow short-term, climate-resilient crops such as green gram, black gram, pearl millet and cowpea to minimise losses in case of deficient rainfall. She also stressed reducing chemical inputs to improve soil health and ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
