Fight Leprosy Discrimination: Health Director

Vijayawada: Health director Dr K. Padmavathi called for collective efforts to curb discrimination being shown to the people infected with leprosy.

Taking part in the programme held to mark the ‘World Leprosy Eradication Day’ as part of the ‘Sparsa Leprosy Awareness Campaign’, at a private college here on Thursday, the health director released the pamphlets. Speaking on the occasion, she said that they were continuing the leprosy awareness programme up to February 23 in order to bring about awareness among the people on leprosy.

She underlined the need to identify those infected with leprosy so that they could be given regular medical treatment to help them not to become crippled and even get the complete cure. She said that the medicines for leprosy would be available free of cost at all primary health centres and advised the infected patients to take medicines regularly.

VMC commissioner fast-tracks GVR Nagar water tank

Vijayawada: In a bid to improve public amenities and ensure a consistent drinking water supply, Vijayawada municipal corporation commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra has ordered officials to expedite the completion of a newly constructed water tank in GVR Nagar under the Amrut 2.0 scheme.

The 1500 KL capacity reservoir, aimed at addressing water scarcity in local areas, is expected to benefit residents in GVR Nagar, Devinagae, Madhuranagar, and nearby regions. The VMC commissioner instructed officials on the urgency of establishing a robust distribution network to ensure the prompt delivery of drinking water.

Commissioner Dhyanchandra highlighted that the supply of drinking water to areas like Division 30 would significantly benefit local residents. He urged that the necessary steps be taken to ensure a consistent and adequate water supply to alleviate any existing shortages.
