Five brothers sentenced to double life imprisonment for murder

Anantapur: Anantapur District Sessions Court on Monday pronounced double life imprisonment for seven persons, including five brothers, in the murder case of D. Shiva Reddy of Kandukur village in Anantapur Rural mandal in 2018. All the five brothers have rowdy sheets against them. Two of them are involved in four murder and four rape cases. Another is accused in a Pocso case.

Police said Dayyam Shiva Reddy of Kandukur village had been running a water plant in Kandukur village, apart from being elected the gram panchayat member of the village.

On the Moharram on October 15, 2017, Sake Balakrishna and his brothers had been celebrating on the road while Shiva Reddy had been driving his water supply vehicle along the same route. After a heated argument, groups supporting both clashed and suffered injuries. A case had been registered. The case got settled after the two groups compromised at a Lok Adalat.

However, Balakrishna developed a grudge against Shiva Reddy and publicly announced that he will kill Shiva Reddy. On March 30, 2018, Balakrishna and his brothers Ramesh, Ashok, Vikram and Suryanarayana waylaid Shiva Reddy going from his fields to his home along with his son Bhanu Prakash Reddy. They started attacking the father and son with hunting sickles.
Shiva Reddy and Bhanu Pradesh Reddy fought and shouted for help, leading to their relatives rushing to the spot. The attackers fled from the spot. By then, Shiva Reddy had died on the spot.
Itikalapalli police registered a case against Balakrishna and 11 others based on a complaint by the son of the deceased.
The District Sessions Court Judge G. Sreenivas pronounced his verdict on Monday, sentencing double life time imprisonment to seven of the accused Sake Balakrishna, Sake Ramesh, Sake Ashok, Sake Bhaskar, Sake Vijaya Kumar, Talari Suryanarayana and Talupuri Mahendra.


Anantapur SP Jagadish appreciated then Anantapur DSP J. Venkatrao and Itikalapalli police for successfully investigating and prosecuting the case.
