Five Policemen Suspended for Pilfering ₹6 Lakh

Vijayawada:NTR district police commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu on Thursday suspended five police personnel for involvement in a financial irregularity.

The suspended cops are Bhvurasetti Rudraraju, sub-inspector (Armed Reserve); Kolusu Nagababu, head constable (AR); Muthakana Arun Kumar, police constable (AR), and police constables Muchu Sivarama Krishna Prasad and Jangala Srujana Kumar.

According to police, lorry driver Sheik Qayyum from Mylavaram village and lorry cleaner Pallepogu Koteswara Rao from Somavaram village had carried a load of chillies to Bilaspur and delivered it. They got payment of ₹25 lakh, which had to be given to the chilly farmers in Madhira.

While returning, cleaner Koteswara Rao got down from the lorry at Palwancha claiming he had some work, while the driver proceeded to Nandigama. After reaching there, he found that the cash had gone missing. He lodged a complaint with the Nandigama town police.

Police booked a case and nabbed the fleeing cleaner at Jonnalagadda check post. They seized cash of ₹18.52 lakh and arrested him. When police questioned the cleaner about the remaining amount, he alleged that ₹6 lakh had been taken away by the police at the check post.

Police then made further inquiries and that the five cops who had seized the cash had taken away ₹6 lakh from the cleaner and under-reported the actual amount of the cash seized.

Following this, the police commissioner placed the five police personnel under suspension. The five have been arrested along with the lorry cleaner.
