Floods: 154 Pregnant Women Evacuated to Safety

Vijayawada: Health authorities have evacuated 154 pregnant women, who are expected to deliver in the next 10 days, to safe locations, as record rainfall in the last two days has left several parts of the state flooded.

Heath special chief secretary M.T. Krishna Babu, in a statement here on Tuesday, said 17,538 patients were given treatment at medical camps being run for flood-hit people. He added that 14 health camps were set up close to the rehabilitation centres, in addition to 20 mobile health camps.

He said six emergency medicines were given to the affected people in 32 wards in the city. Helicopters, boats and working roads were used to distribute 75,000 medical kits, which also contained handbills explaining how to use such medicines.

Krishna Babu announced that 100 extra beds were readied in government hospitals.

To stop spread of contagious diseases, 64 medical camps will be set up in Vijayawada, besides five camps and attached mobile health camps in rural areas.
