Water Recedes in Srisailam Reservoir
Kurnool: All gates were closed as the floodwaters receded at the Srisailam reservoir. On Wednesday, the water level was recorded at 883.90 feet, with a storage capacity of 209.16 TMC. The reservoir was receiving 1,99,853 cusecs of floodwater from the upper catchment area, while 1,99,835 cusecs were being released to local canals and for electricity generation at the right and left bank power stations.
Further, a significant explosion occurred at the Srisailam right bank hydropower station late on Tuesday. In unit number seven, the condenser burned and exploded with a loud sound. Staff members ran due to the noises in the powerhouse, and for a while, the employees did not understand what had happened. With the flood level being high, they initially panicked about the situation. Immediately after the accident, the authorities stopped power generation in unit number seven. After identifying the problem, the officials explained that a technical error caused the condenser to burn and explode. Repairs were carried out and steps were taken to restore the power supply, which resolved the issue.
