Fly ash dispute sparks tension in Anantapur, Kadapa

Anantapur: The ongoing conflict over the transportation of fly ash from the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP) led to heightened tensions between Tadipatri and Jammalamadugu in Anantapur and Kadapa districts, respectively.

Vehicles from Tadipatri were stopped at Jammalamadugu, while those from Kadapa were obstructed in Tadipatri on Tuesday, as part of a feud between municipal chairman J.C. Prabhakar Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party and Jammalamadugu MLA C. Adinarayana Reddy of the BJP.

The clash began when Jammalamadugu leaders resisted the loading of fly ash onto tippers and lorries belonging to Tadipatri. In retaliation, Tadipatri leaders prevented vehicles from Jammalamadugu from transporting ash to cement factories.
Despite Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's earlier reprimand and summoning both leaders for discussions, the tensions persisted. While Adinarayana Reddy attended the meeting, J.C. Prabhakar Reddy cited health reasons for his absence.
Sources suggest that Prabhakar Reddy aimed to facilitate the transportation of ash to a cement factory, which Adinarayana Reddy’s group opposed, preferring local transporters from Kadapa district.
The situation escalated, with the YSR Congress Party criticising the allied government and CM Chandrababu Naidu for failing to resolve the dispute and maintain order.
Reports indicate that discussions are ongoing between the two groups to reach a compromise and defuse the tensions in the RTPP and surrounding areas.
