Four-day experts’ workshop on Polavaram concludes
Vijayawada:The four-day workshop on Polavaram project, attended by a panel of experts, concluded on Saturday with a resolve to complete the irrigation project’s earth-cum-rock-fill (ECRF) dam by May 2028.
The panel laid stress on ensuring quality with regard to construction of the diaphragm wall as well as the ECRF dam. It agreed to take up works related to construction of the diaphragm wall from November 25. It observed that ECRF dam works can also be taken up after half of the D-wall is constructed.
Experts discussed at length the designs of various components of the project. They asked for further details before finalising the designs.
The workshop included a presentation, which gave a tentative schedule of works to be commenced and completed.
Those who attended the workshop included international experts, experts from the Central Water Commission, Polavaram Project Authority and several central agencies. Officials of the water resources department and representatives of agencies executing the project attended the workshop.
Polavaram project chief engineer K. Narasimha Rao said, “The four-day workshop discussed a series of technical issues on various components of the Polavaram project. We want to hold another workshop in February to finalise certain designs before going ahead with the execution of project works.”
