Ganja menace to be tackled in first 100 days: Home minister Anitha

VIJAYAWADA: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has reiterated that the Telugu Desam government will crack down on the gangs dealing in narcotic drugs and the results would be seen in the first 100 days of its rule.


“We will provide protection to women and girls,” Anitha said after taking charge as minister for home and disaster management, at the state secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday.

During the last five years, cannabis and drugs had been used massively in AP, she said and added that a task force would be formed to crack down on the gangs dealing in drugs as also those who use narcotic substances.

“In the first 100 days, we will reduce the transportation of ganja and drugs to a large extent. We will investigate the cases filed by the previous government. If the victims want the cases to be reopened, we would do that.”

She said the police should work in for the people and not against them. “Strict action will be taken if people’s sentiments are hurt on social media."

She said Disha Police Stations had been set up without a corresponding legal framework. Those police stations would be converted to Women Police Stations. Many police stations lacked minimum facilities. Such problems would be solved.

She said police officers should work for the people and maintain peace and security in the state. They should not work for any party or leader.

DGP Harish Gupta, home principal secretary Vijaya Kumar, additional DG -Intelligence Kumara Viswajit, DG- Railways Tripathi Ujala, additional DG (law & order) S Bagchi, Additional DG- APSP Atul Singh, DIG Rahul Sharma, and others congratulated the minister by presenting her with bouquets.
