Anantapur: Nellore Rural deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ghattamaneni Sreenivas Rao suffered injuries when smugglers of ganja tried to run over him at the Venkatachalam toll plaza in Nellore district during the early hours of Saturday.
A team of policemen led by the DSP organised a surprise check of vehicles at the toll plaza when a car arrived there. On realising that vehicles are being checked, occupants of the car tried to escape in the vehicle.
When Sreenivas Rao tried to stop the car, the driver hit the DSP with the vehicle and sped away.
Police alerted the surrounding police stations about the incident along with the vehicle details, before shifting injured Sreenivas Rao to a private nursing home in Nellore.
Atmakur police intercepted the car and took the occupants into custody. Police seized ganja from the car.
