Garbage Dumping Yards To Be Eliminated by Oct. 2026: Pattabhiram

Vijayawada: Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman K. Pattabhiram declared that as per the mission spearheaded by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, AP will have a fully clean and green environment by October 2026, when the need for dumping yards will end.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pattabhiram emphasised that there will be waste processing units in every mandal by then, which will process the solid and liquid waste on the same day it is collected. He maintained that the clean and green mission is not limited to municipal and panchayat departments alone.
“The Swachh Andhra strategy involves collaboration of all 90 government departments, with designated nodal officers appointed at both the state and district levels to ensure coordination. The Chief Minister’s unwavering commitment is to ensure that no dumping yards are visible across the state,” the corporation chairman pointed out.
He said so far, of the 85 lakh tonnes of waste left by the previous government, 49 lakh tonnes has been processed. The remaining waste will be eliminated by October. He clarified that approximately 6,900 tons of waste is generated daily in 123 municipalities, of which 49 per cent is processed.
Pattabhiram disclosed that the state government has initiated tenders for two new plants, one in Nellore, capable of processing 620 tonnes of waste per day and generating 10 megawatts of power, and another in Rajahmundry, set to process 640 tonnes of garbage and generate 12 megawatts.
He underlined that plans are underway to construct toilets for 40,000 households with an investment of ₹48 crore, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing public sanitation.
