Guntur court strikes down ragging case in Rishiteswari suicide
Vijayawada: The Guntur district court has struck down a police case related to the 2015 suicide of architecture student Rishiteswari, who allegedly faced ragging at Nagarjuna University, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges.
However, the victim’s parents expressed anguish, alleging that they have not received justice despite fighting for nine years. The victim’s mother, Durgabai, said that although they had hoped for justice, the court’s verdict left them disappointed. She added that they would need some time to decide whether to appeal the city court's decision.
The victim’s father, Murali Krishna, questioned why their daughter's diaries were not considered as evidence, despite clearly mentioning incidents of ragging. He pointed out that the forensic lab confirmed the handwriting in the diaries belonged to Rishiteswari.
It is noteworthy that Rishiteswari took the extreme step on July 14, 2015, leaving a suicide note that stated she was unable to bear the ragging she faced. The Pedakakani police had registered a case at the time. Rishiteswari hailed from Warangal in Telangana.
