HC Restrains Deputy Speaker Raju from Arguing in Akiveedu Temple Row

A division bench comprising Justice Lisa Gill and Justice N. Jayasurya heard the PIL on Wednesday concerning the alleged construction of a temple without obtaining the required permissions.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has restrained Undi MLA and AP Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju from making arguments in a PIL relating to the construction of a temple at Pedapeta in Akiveedu of West Godavari district, observing that he was not a respondent in the case.

A division bench comprising Justice Lisa Gill and Justice N. Jayasurya heard the PIL on Wednesday concerning the alleged construction of a temple without obtaining the required permissions.

The court observed that a petition on the same issue was already pending before a single judge. It said it would be inappropriate to hear another petition on the same matter and advised the petitioner to seek impleadment in the earlier case pending before the single judge.

HC grants relief to three accused in AP liquor scam case

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has exempted three accused in the AP liquor scam case, including K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, Balaji Govindappa and P. Krishna Mohan Reddy, from surrendering until the hearing of their bail petitions is completed. The next hearing has been posted to June 24.

Justice Venkata Jyotirmai Pratapa heard separate bail petitions filed by the accused on Wednesday and directed the CID’s SIT to file counter affidavits on their pleas.

Senior counsels for the petitioners, including S. Niranjan Reddy, Siddartha Dave and S. Sriram, submitted that the High Court had earlier set aside the default bail granted to their clients by the ACB court and directed them to surrender. They further submitted that when the accused approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order, the apex court granted them protection from surrender.

Taking note of the Supreme Court’s earlier order, the High Court extended protection to the three accused from surrender.

HC orders Visakha Collector probe into land encroachment

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the Visakhapatnam District Collector to conduct an inquiry into the alleged encroachment of government land by real estate firms and the disappearance of land records in collusion with certain revenue officials.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice N. Jayasurya heard a PIL filed by advocate B.V.S.S. Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday.

The petitioner alleged that 2.37 acres of government land in Survey No. 34/1 at Bakkannapalem in Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam, worth hundreds of crores of rupees, had been encroached upon and buildings constructed by several realtors while officials failed to act.

The court directed the district collector to conduct an inquiry and issue written orders on the matter.
