Health Care: IMA to Adopt Four Villages in Every District in AP

Vijayawada: The AP chapter of Indian Medical Association would adopt at least four villages in every district as part of its special health care initiative in Andhra Pradesh.

Chapter president Dr Garlapati Nanda Kishore told the media here on Friday that IMA would extend its support to the state government in protecting the people’s health.

“The number of cases among rural women suffering with anaemia is going up while chronic cases like cancer, blood pressure and diabetes are also seeing a spike in the state. IMA aims to create awareness among the people on how to take preventive steps,” he said.

Referring to the threat of antimicrobial resistance, the IMA president said people were developing resistance to antibiotics due to their indiscriminate use beyond the required dosage. This may result in an inability to control certain diseases including tuberculosis.

He appealed to the state government to extend its support by a reduction in power tariff, hospital building tax, high GST on medicines and medical equipment etc. He also called for changes in law to deal strongly those who attack the doctors and hospitals.
