Heavy Rain Alert for Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area is set to develop near the Bay of Bengal before evening on Thursday, signifying heavy rainfall across the north coastal and south coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh. The weather office issued an Orange alert for the districts of Eluru, Palanadu and NTR.
A Yellow alert has been sounded for the districts of Alluri, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Konaseema, Yanam, West Godavari and East Godavari.
An officer from the Visakhapatnam cyclone warning centre, KVS Srinivas, said the Monsoon trough currently extends through several key locations, including Jaisalmer and Kota. It reaches up to 1.5km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh is also contributing to the formation of the low-pressure area. This is expected to form over the west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by Sept 5.
IMD forecasts suggest heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, particularly the north coastal AP and Yanam regions. Areas like Eluru, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram could experience intense rainfall. Predictions are of heavy rain in the following days.
Under the circumstances, strong gusty winds with speeds of 35 to 45km per hour are anticipated along the coast. Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into the sea due to the turbulent conditions, IMD said.
Since Tuesday, moderate rainfall was recorded in various districts, with Kaikaluru receiving 6cm and Vijayawada 4cm.
On Thursday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations across north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Similar conditions are likely at one or two places in Eluru, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.
On Sept 6, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Eluru, ASR, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam. By Sept 7, heavy rain is expected at isolated locations in NCAP and Yanam, IMD said
