Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Kurnool Region

Kurnool: Heavy rainfall over past two days has led to rivulets and streams overflowing in Kurnool and Nandyal districts, severely disrupting transport between villages.

Traffic on key routes, such as Adoni to Pathikonda and Nandikotkur to other villages, as well as connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, has been disrupted due to rising waters.

Rains in Kurnool persisted until Tuesday morning, flooding low-lying areas. In Nandikotkur, residents experienced two hours of panic as torrential rains led to waterlogging. Isukaleru Vaagu at Parumanchala in Jupadu Bungalow mandal is swollen, cutting off traffic to surrounding villages.

In Kurnool district, a culvert on the road to Devarabetta in Kosigi mandal got cut off, halting traffic. Pathikonda-Adoni route has become impassable due to floodwaters. Topee Maremmavva Temple in Amritapuram is inundated. Handri River is flowing at an elevated level in Alarudinne. Crops have been submerged in Halaharvi and Aluru mandals. Floodwater has turned the Government High School in Mantralayam into a pond.

Pedda Vaagu is flowing over the Adoni-Pathikonda main road near Chinna Hulthi village, causing traffic disruption. Only heavy vehicles are able to navigate the flooded road. Police are not allowing smaller vehicles to pass.

In Holagunda mandal, Vedavati River has overflowed at Marlamadiki, blocking traffic between villages in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Heavy rains in upper catchment areas has led to the river rising, posing severe difficulties to residents and travellers.
