VIJAYAWADA: The Telugu Desam has completed elaborate arrangements for its two-day annual conclave, Mahanadu that would be held in a first-of-its-kind hybrid format from Wednesday at the party headquarters, NTR Bhavan, in Amaravati.
The event assumes political significance as this is the first Mahanadu after education minister Nara Lokesh assumed charge as the party’s working president.
TD national president and chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu would use the platform to highlight the government’s achievements over the last two years and unveil the roadmap for the next three years.
Naidu on Tuesday asserted that the conclave would serve as a major platform to strengthen grassroots cadre, promote women empowerment and chart a roadmap for future political battles.
Addressing TD MLAs, MPs, MLCs, senior leaders and grassroots workers through a teleconference ahead of the conclave, Naidu said Mahanadu 2026 would be held virtually on May 27 and 28 from the party’s central office in Mangalagiri. The decision, he said, was taken in view of prevailing circumstances and in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.
The TD chief recalled that the party had earlier organised Mahanadu digitally during the Covid-19 pandemic when physical gatherings were not feasible. He said the party had initially planned to conduct a three-day event in Nellore, but later decided to shift to a virtual format and reduce the duration to two days.
Describing Mahanadu as an emotional and highly anticipated event for Telugu people, Naidu said the conclave would be organised through 1,845 cluster units across Andhra Pradesh, making it one of the largest digital political outreach exercises undertaken by the party. He said the cluster system would not only strengthen the organisational structure but also create opportunities for grassroots workers to emerge as future leaders.
“This is not merely a party programme but a platform that reflects the aspirations of Telugu people. People keenly watch Mahanadu to understand the party’s message, policies and future direction,” he observed.
Naidu announced that this year’s Mahanadu would be held with “Stree Shakti” as its central theme, with special focus on women empowerment, welfare initiatives and greater participation of women in politics and governance. State-level leaders will participate in cluster-level programmes across the state, while large LED screens are being installed at over 1,800 locations to facilitate virtual participation and create a festive atmosphere for party cadre.
The chief minister called upon elected representatives and office-bearers to display greater accountability and discipline, asserting that public trust could only be earned through responsible conduct and commitment to public service. He emphasized that the conclave should reaffirm the party’s dedication to Andhra Pradesh’s development while paying rich tributes to TD founder NT Rama Rao.
According to the schedule, Naidu will visit the party headquarters on Wednesday morning, hoist the party flag, pay tributes to NTR and honour party workers who sacrificed their lives for the organisation.
The inaugural session will begin with an address by TD state president Palla Srinivasa Rao, followed by presentation of the party’s financial accounts and speeches by senior leaders on themes such as women empowerment, Karyakartae Adhinetha (party activist is the leader) and service to the poor.
