IMD forecasts rain for coastal AP, Rayalaseema

Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the central parts of the southern Bay of Bengal on Saturday, December 7. The IMD-Amaravati stated that the development is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts, around December 12. This marks the second system over the Bay of Bengal within a week, following the earlier low-pressure system that intensified into Cyclone Fengal and made landfall on the night of November 30 between north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Cyclone Fengal caused significant damage to standing and harvested crops in the Rayalaseema and southern coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The fresh system may bring rainfall to parts of the southern coastal and Rayalaseema districts, according to S. Karunasagar, a scientist at IMD-Amaravati.
For the coming days, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the southern coastal districts and Rayalaseema on December 12.
