IMD predicts thunderstorms in part of Andhra Pradesh for next 5 days
Amaravati: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lighting in parts of Andhra Pradesh from August 1 to August 5.
According to IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema, adding that the region is expected to face strong winds up to the speed of 40 km per hour for the next 5 days.
Amaravati Meteorological Centre director Stella Samul stated, "Yesterday's shear zone roughly along 20°N between 4.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height has become less marked. Lower tropospheric Westerly winds prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam"
Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) predicted moderate rain with scattered thundershowers in the eastern parts of Andhra Pradesh.
"Moderate rain with scattered thundershowers is likely over Srikakulam, Manyam, Alluri, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Prakasam, Nellore, Nandyala, Anantapuram, Annamaiya, Chittoor, Tirupati district" APSDMA posted on X.
Earlier, IMD warned about moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting over the South Peninsular region.
"Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Kerala & Mahe; Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Interior Karnataka and isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana and Rayalaseema during next 5 days," IMD said in a press release.
