Industrial Safety Must Be Top Priority: Vizag Collector

During the meeting, he mandated that all companies provide compulsory insurance policies for their employees and workers. He also directed industry owners to implement automatic alarm mechanisms throughout their facilities.

Visakhapatnam: The district crisis management group convened to discuss enhancing industrial safety to minimise human and property loss.

Visakhapatnam collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, who chaired the meeting on Saturday, instructed officials and industry managers to conduct frequent mock drills to prepare workers and the public for potential accidents. “Safety standards must be the top priority in all industrial operations,” he stressed, adding that proper training should be provided to staff on accident prevention.

During the meeting, he mandated that all companies provide compulsory insurance policies for their employees and workers. He also directed industry owners to implement automatic alarm mechanisms throughout their facilities.

The collector recommended establishing a two-kilometre danger zone around industrial sites with appropriate safety measures. “Staff working in industries and people in surrounding areas must be regularly alerted, and strong preventive measures must be implemented,” he stated.

He also emphasised that industry owners should provide comprehensive facilities for workers while adhering to environmentally friendly policies. Emergency response teams must be present at all locations, with proper training in accident management.

“No negligence will be tolerated when it comes to the lives of workers and the public,” the collector warned.

The meeting was attended by deputy inspector of factories Suresh, district industries centre general manager G.M. Adiseshu, and other officials.
