Kurnool: The much-awaited interstate football tournament will be held in Yemmiganur town, Kurnool district, from January 15 to 21, coinciding with the grand car festival of Lord Sree Neelakanteshwara Swamy. Since its inception in 1982, the tournament has aimed to encourage rural athletes and provide them with a platform to showcase their talent.
Scheduled to coincide with the vibrant jatara festival, the competition is expected to take place in a celebratory atmosphere, attracting devotees, visitors, and sports enthusiasts alike. This year’s tournament promises fierce competition, with teams from various states vying for substantial prizes. The first prize is Rs.1,50,000, followed by Rs.1,00,000 for the second, Rs.50,000 for the third, and Rs.25,000 for the fourth, along with shields for the winners.
Local MLA B.V. Jayanageswara Reddy urged the Andhra Pradesh Football Association (APFA) to grant official affiliation to the tournament, ensuring seamless participation for regional clubs. He emphasised that such events are pivotal for the growth of sports in the state and serve as a platform for showcasing local talent on a broader stage.
