International cricket stadium in Amaravati to become reality:
VIJAYAWADA: The long-awaited International Cricket Stadium in Amaravati is set to become a reality. Vijayawada MP and newly elected Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) president Kesineni Sivanath, also known as Chinni, inspected the construction site in Mangalagiri on Sunday. He deplored that, for the last five years, the contractor and the previous government had neglected the project, with no progress made and numerous construction flaws.
He revealed that the government plans to complete and inaugurate the Mangalagiri International Cricket Stadium, built by the ACA in association with the BCCI, within the next six months.
Sivanath stated that once legal issues with the bankrupt contractor IVRCL are resolved, construction will resume in two to three months, with the stadium expected to be ready for international matches within a year. He highlighted defects in the construction, including poorly built facilities and inadequate viewing arrangements.
Sivanath announced plans to form an apex body to address these issues and improve cricket infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, including new stadiums and cricket academies. He also noted that infrastructure improvements, such as roads and water supply, will be completed before the stadium’s finish.
Earlier in the day, Sivanath mentioned that the TD-led NDA state government would focus on developing both Vijayawada and Amaravati and aims to host the 2027 National Games in Amaravati. Alongside Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Ram Mohan Rao, Sivanath participated in a meeting of the Government Polytechnic College Walkers Association. He revealed that the government plans to establish a cricket academy in Vijayawada.
