Jagan DA case: Hearing begins in discharge petitions

Hyderabad: The CBI court here on Thursday began hearing in the discharge petitions filed by the accused in the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy`s disproportionate assets (DA) cases. Around 131 individual discharge petitions filed by the accused including Jagan Mohan Reddy, Vijaysai Reddy and others, who are accused in the 12 FIRs lodged by the CBI and 10 cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate in the DA case.

These petitions are pending for more than 10 years and recently the Supreme Court directed all High Courts to issue guidelines to the trial court to dispose of the pending cases against the present and former public representatives.

These petitions had already been heard by the judges of the CBI court. However, on their transfers or for with other reasons, discharge petitions were kept pending.

Present CBI court judge T. Raghuram, who took charge recently, has commenced hearing on the discharge petitions. Senior counsel Ashok Reddy representing Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday explained to the court about the details of the discharge petitions and the status of the trial in the main cases which were registered by the CBI and ED. The court adjourned the hearing to Friday.
