Jagan Demands ₹25 Lakh Ex-Gratia for Kin of Flood Victims

Vijayawada:YSRCP president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has demanded that state government provide ₹25 lakh ex-gratia to families of those who died during the recent floods in Vijayawada and ₹50,000 for each house that has been damaged.

He visited the flood-affected areas in Old RR Peta, Vijayawada, on Wednesday. He walked through knee-deep water, interacted with residents and inquired about their difficulties.

Speaking to media on Wednesday, Jagan expressed deep concern over the government's handling of the floods. He held Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu responsible for the loss of 32 lives. He maintained that the disaster could have been avoided if the government had acted in time. He attributed the inaction to Chandrababu Naidu's inability in managing the crisis. He asked whether the CM is fit enough to remain in office.

The former chief minister demanded that Chandrababu Naidu admit his mistakes and apologise publicly.

Jagan raised concerns about key departments like irrigation, revenue and home not acting in time. This could have minimised the impact of the disaster, he felt. He criticised the government for now blaming the officials of these departments.

The former chief minister underlined that his government had built the ₹500 crore retaining wall, which is now protecting around three lakh people in Vijayawada.

He pointed out that many households in low-lying areas, particularly those on the ground floor, had lost all their belongings and are in dire straits. He called for urgent action to effectively address their needs.
