Jaggampeta MLA suggests alternative to volunteers

KAKINADA, JUNE 30

Jaggampeta MLA Jyothula Venkata Appa Rao (Nehru) has come up with an alternative to volunteers’ system introduced by the previous YSRC government.
He told media in Jaggampeta on Sunday that volunteers, especially in villages, had been used as YSRC workers. They had not been of much use to the people.
Nehru pointed out that the TD government now proposes to double the honorarium to volunteers to â‚ą10,000.
He felt instead of employing volunteers in villages, state government should instead recruit sanitation workers for the same â‚ą10,000. That would make villages more clean and hygienic, leading to great improvement in public health, he pointed out.
The Jaggampeta MLA further pointed out that volunteers only distribute monthly pensions to senior citizens. This job can as well be done by the secretariat employees, he stated.
With regard to rendering services to people, Nehru underlined that there are enough Jana Sena, Telugu Desam and Bharatiya Janata Party workers in villages. They would render services to people more efficiently than volunteers.
The TD legislator said this is his individual opinion and he would mention the same in the assembly.
