Vijayawada: A four-member team from universities in the Toyama Prefecture visited Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) on Tuesday.
The team, received by university vice-chancellor K. Gangadhara Rao, had a “Collaborative Dialogue on Education between Toyama Prefecture and Andhra Pradesh” at the ANU meeting hall.
Following discussions, it has been agreed in principle that Toyama Prefecture universities will enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for knowledge transfer, research and exchange of students and faculty.
Speaking on the occasion, AP State Council of Higher Education acting chairman Professor K. Rammohana Rao emphasised that the state government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is keen on introducing elements of the Japanese education system in AP.
He underlined that AP will examine opportunities for mutual exchange of students. He pointed out that world-renowned laboratories are present at the six universities in Andhra Pradesh. He asked Japanese teachers to visit and observe the teaching-learning process and jointly undertake research programmes.
The Japanese representatives responded positively. Japan’s International Affairs Division director Yuko Hongo said they are ready to sign MoUs with universities in AP with regard to the exchange of students and faculty, apart from research.
