JJS urges seizure of assets from food adulterants to support cancer hospitals

The state convener of JJS, Vasu highlighted the widespread issue of contaminated food and criticised the government for neglecting the problem's seriousness

Visakhapatnam: The social organisation Jana Jagarana Samiti (JJS) is urging the state government to introduce legislation allowing the seizure of assets from vendors selling contaminated food. The JJS proposes that these assets be donated to cancer hospitals and calls for stringent measures to deter food adulteration.

At a press conference in Visakhapatnam, the state convener of JJS, Vasu highlighted the widespread issue of contaminated food and criticised the government for neglecting the problem's seriousness. The organisation expressed concern that India could become a global hub for cancer due to inadequate food safety regulations and enforcement.

JJS urges Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to hold a comprehensive review session with senior food safety officials. They propose the establishment of a major food safety laboratory in Amaravati and the deployment of mobile food safety units in all district centres. JJS also advocates for the appointment of an additional 26 Food Safety Officers, with one assigned to each district.
