Kadapa: Heated argument between TD MLA and YSRC Mayor
Kadapa: Acrimonious scenes were witnessed at the general body meeting of Kadapa Municipal Corporation with the TD MLA Madhavi Reddy expressing anger over Kadapa Mayor Suresh Babu, belonging to the YSRC.
The MLA lost her temper on finding the officials violated the protocol and failed to provide her a seat.
"The Mayor is insulting a woman. I think your leader finds happiness when women are insulted. The Mayor could be fearing that his chair would be removed and hence, playing this game. The Mayor looks down upon women. During the YSRC rule, the MLA used to sit on either side of the Mayor but now, during the TD rule, you have failed to provide a chair at the meeting. What is your intention behind failing to provide a seat?, she questioned.
The MLA said that she wants to speak about the corruption in the municipal corporation. "You are fearing that graft in the corporation would come to light and so avoiding discussion on it," she alleged.
Madhavi Reddy had a serious altercation with the Kadapa Mayor. MAdhavi Reddy continued to speak standing, as a chair was not provided to her.
Witnessing the argument, the YSRC and TD corporators stood on either side of the mayor and supported their respective leaders, raising slogans against each other. The ruckus spiraled leading to jostling between the TD and YSRC corporators. The YSRC corporators demanded that the TD MLA should tender apology to the Mayor.
The Mayor suspended seven councilors, who switched sides to the TD, on the grounds that they were hindering the general body meeting. The TD councilors demanded that YSRC councilors should also be suspended and in the melee, the meeting was adjourned.
After some time, the meeting commenced and amidst ruckus, the YSRC members gave consent to the agenda.
Meanwhile, the TD councilors staged a protest outside the municipal corporation building and raised slogans "Mayor Down Down'. They demanded that women should be respected and sensing the situation was spiraling out of control, the police imposed Sec. 144.
